Construction group head welcomes Marit’s appointment

SASKATOON — Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association President Shantel Lipp said the organization is ready to co-operate again with Dave Marit, who will be returning to his previous role leading the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

Marit, who overwhelmingly won re-election to represent Wood River in the Legislature, was appointed the Minister of Highways by Premier Scott Moe on Nov. 7, as part of the government’s 16-member cabinet. He will also serve as Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement.

“Our association is extremely pleased to welcome Minister Marit back to the Highways and SaskBuilds portfolios that directly impact all of our members. We have worked with Minister Marit and have a good relationship with him. We look forward to re-engaging on issues with him that will help our industry grow,” said Lipp.

“The SHCA has engaged with the provincial government on many industry issues that should be addressed to help our members meet the challenges of a growing province. We hope to have a discussion with Minister Marit in the near future to discuss advancing our industry in a way that will benefit our province.”

The SHCA represents more than 200 member businesses in Saskatchewan’s heavy construction industry.

Marit served as Minister of Agriculture from 2018 to 2024, as well as Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation, and continued as Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency, a role he was appointed to under former Premier Brad Wall’s government in 2016.
