Statistics Canada released an updated seeded acreage report of principle field crops for June.

Looking at Saskatchewan, seeded acreage was mixed for wheat, canola, barley, oats, lentils and dry peas.

Producers planted 14.2 million acres of wheat, unchanged from last year. Spring wheat acres was down 2 per cent but was offset by durum acres which was up 2.9 per cent.

There was 12.1 million acres of canola planted in the province, down 2.5 per cent from last year. 

Barley acreage had the bigger year-over-year decrease of 17.5 per cent at 2.3 million acres. Oats was the opposite, rising 22.3 per cent to 1.3 million acres.

Producers reported more acres for lentil and dry peas in Saskatchewan — for lentils it was up 14 per cent to 3.6-million acres and for dry peas it was up 8.7 per cent to 1.7 million acres.

The information was collected from May 15 to June 12, and data on the final acreage of crops for 2024 will be released on December 5th
