111th Stock Growers AGM & Convention aims to “reach new heights”

The 111th Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association (SSGA) AGM & Convention is set for next week in Swift Current.

President of the Stock Growers Garner Deobald says the theme this year is “reaching new heights”.

“Reaching new heights is something that I think we all aspire to,” Deobald explained. “With markets where they’re at, being at an all-time high, and just encouraging people to keep working and making sure that we are continuing to do our very best at what we do each and everyday.”

The event starts on Sunday with regestration at 5:30 p.m. followed by a president’s reception and scotch tasting & trade show at 6 p.m.

Monday is filled with presentations from various speakers on different topics. Among them are Dr. Tammy Nemeth, a U.K.-based Energy Security Analyst; Kent Bacus, Executive Director of Government Relations with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA); Anne Wasko, President of Cattle Trends; Graham Gilchrist, CEO of Biological Carbon Canada; John & Deanne Chuiko with CJ Ranching; and Cynthia Beck, a psychologist who will give a presentation on stress and farm productivity.

Speakers on the last day, Tuesday, include Rob Cameron, Chief Marshal of the Saskatchewan Marshals Services, and Brant Kirychuk, General Manager of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Foundation. There will also be updates from the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation, Water Security Agency, and the Canadian Cattle Association.

“It’s maybe one of the best ones we’ve had for many years,” Deobald said of the lineup of speakers. “You have to have the topics that are very timely, you have to address those.”

“This is your invitation to join in and have a really good conference. Just a good opportunity for us to get us together.”

The Home Inn & Suites in Swift Current is the venue for the AGM & Convention. Information on the event is on the Saskatchewan Stock Growers website.
