Canada’s Two Major Railways Continue to Struggle With Grain Deliveries: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 31% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 29, a notable decline from the 44% order fulfillment performance seen in week 28.

That’s according to the Ag Transport Coalition.

System order fulfillment performance has now declined for four consecutive weeks, with the railways failing to fulfill more than 58% of shipper orders over that four week period, and not reaching 45% order fulfillment for three consecutive weeks.

In supplying 30% of cars ordered by shippers in week 29, CN performance declined from the 41% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a thirty-first straight week.

CPKC saw performance decline, with the railway supplying 33% of shipper orders in week 29 as compared to the 48% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CPKC has now failed to supply more than 55% of cars ordered by shippers for six consecutive weeks.

CPKC performance remains below the 90% performancethreshold for a thirteenth consecutive week.
