Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister to Advance International Trade Relations in India and UAE

Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison is leading a trade mission to India and the United Arab Emirates for one week, starting Tuesday and wrapping up next Wednesday.

He will be meeting with business groups, buyers, and investors to promote the province’s sustainable crop production while strengthening trade and investment relations. Harrison will first attend the Pulses Conclave in Delhi, India, an annual event for international pulse suppliers and buyers, before going to the Dubai for the Gulfood Exhibition, a trade show that attracts 5,500 exhibitors from 129 countries.

“The United Arab Emirates and India are important export markets for Saskatchewan, especially in the pulse sector,” Harrison said. “We will continue to reinforce our longstanding commitment as a reliable and trustworthy supplier of high-quality agricultural products.”Harrison says in a news release he will be reinforcing the province’s commitment to be a reliable and trustworthy supplier of high-quality agricultural products.

The government notes in a news release Saskatchewan was responsible for 70 per cent of the UAE’s lentil imports and 54 per cent of its dry pea imports in 2024. Saskatchewan contributed 46 per cent of India’s lentil imports and 43 per cent of dry pea imports.

India – the world’s largest consumer of pulses and number one customer of Canadian pulses – is also Saskatchewan’s third largest agri-food export market. The UAE is the province’s ninth largest market.

Saskatchewan also has international trade offices set up in both countries.
