Sharp Decline in Grain Deliveries by Canada’s Two Major Railways in Week 17: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 72% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 17 – the lowest performance seen since week 5, and marks a notable decline from the 91% order fulfillment performance seen in week 16.

That’s according to the Ag Transport Coalition.

In supplying 63% of cars ordered by shippers in week 17, CN performance deteriorated significantly from the 85% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a nineteenth straight week.

CPKC performance also saw a notable decline, with the railway supplying 81% of shipper orders in week 17 as compared to the 96% performance seen the prior week.

CPKC performance has now dropped below the 90% performance threshold after maintaining a 4-week streak above 90%.
