Grain Delivery Struggles for Canada’s Two Major Railways in Week 28: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 45% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 28, a very modest improvement from the 44% order fulfillment performance seen in week 27.

That’s according to the Ag Transport Coalition.

CN and CPKC combined have now failed to supply more than 45% of shipper orders for two consecutive weeks and have failed to supply 70% of shipper demand for six consecutive weeks.

In supplying 40% of cars ordered by shippers in week 28, CN performance declined from the 43% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a thirtieth straight week.

CPKC saw performance improve slightly with the railway supplying 49% of shipper orders in week 28 as compared to the 44% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CPKC has now failed to supply more than 55% of cars ordered by shippers for five consecutive weeks.

CPKC performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a twelfth straight week.
