Canada’s Two Major Railways Continue to Struggle Making Grain Deliveries in Week 27: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 44% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 27, a decline from the 58% order fulfillment performance seen in week 26.

It matches the worst performance seen this year, which occurred in week 3 when the railways saw a brief labour disruption.

That’s according to the Ag Transport Coalition.

CN and CPKC combined have now failed to supply 70% of shipper orders for five consecutive weeks.

In supplying 43% of cars ordered by shippers in week 27, CN performance saw a significant decline from the 60% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a twenty-ninth straight week.

CPKC saw performance decline further, with the railway supplying 45% of shipper orders in week 27 as compared to the 55% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week.

CPKC has now failed to supply more than 55% of cars ordered by shippers for four consecutive weeks.

CPKC performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for an eleventh straight week
